Freedom House talks Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month
In Springtown, Mayor Greg Hood declared April Sexual Assault Awareness Month at the March 18 regular city council meeting. Debbie Buckman of Freedom House of Parker County accepted the proclamation from Hood. Freedom House is a domestic abuse and sexual assault treatment facility and shelter for men and women who are survivors of these horrific crimes.
Freedom House was formed in 1995 by a group from Central Christian Church in Weatherford who saw a need for woman who were being domestically abused. They eventually found a house to office out of and shelter individuals who needed help. Patti Wilson is the executive director and Nishna Mendez is a victim advocate. Mendez answers the Freedom House hotline, when an advocate is requested at a hospital, Mendez drops everything to be there.
