SHS placed on hold over threatening call found to be a hoax

On Tuesday, March 18, Springtown High School was placed on hold due to a threatening phone call that was made to the Springtown Police Department. The call was received at 8:20 a.m. and the school resource officer alerted campus administrators who made the decision to place the school on hold while police investigated the threat.

After a full sweep of the entire campus, the student responsible was identified and admitted the call was a prank. The hold was lifted and Springtown High School Principal Andrew Hohman said the student will face disciplinary action. Later in the afternoon, Hohman provided a full statement explaining what happened to parents and the public: “Dear Parents and Guardians, “The safety and well-being of our students will always be our top priority. We also want to remain as transparent as possible, ensuring you are informed about events that impact our campus. This letter is part of that commitment — to keep you updated and reassure you that we are doing everything possible to keep our students safe.

“This morning, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Springtown PD received a call reporting a possible threat against Springtown High School. Our School Resource Officer immediately alerted campus administration, and out of an abundance of caution, we placed the campus in a hold while notifying central administration. Central administration and six additional Springtown police officers responded to ensure our campus remained secure.
