AZLE — In a thrilling season filled with grit and determination, Azle resident Gage Payne claimed the 2024 Texas Cross Country Racing Association Open Amateur Championship, rocketing his young racing career. Riding his trusted KTM 350, Payne managed to outlast a competitive field of riders, securing the title just one year after he first entered the world of cross-country motorcycle racing.

Payne’s journey into racing began in 2023, when he dove into the world of competitive cross-country racing. A quick study, the young rider made an impression immediately with his natural talent and drive to learn. His rapid progress culminated in his victory last year, showing that with a combination of skill, heart and the right equipment, even a newcomer can rise to the top.

“This win was a true blessing; It has been a rocky journey from my first race last year to this moment,” Payne said. “I’ve worked hard, and it feels great to see it pay off.” “I wouldn’t be here without the incredible support from my grandfather, parents and friends I’ve met at the races.”

The 2024 TCCRA race season was a grueling test of endurance and skill, with riders navigating through tough terrain, unpredictable weather, and challenging 24–30-mile courses, on average. Payne remained focused throughout the season, pacing himself and maintaining consistent lap times. Despite some mechanical struggles during the first half of the season, he switched his motorcycle up to a KTM 350, allowing him to gain the upper hand in the second half of the season and clinch the win.

Payne took a moment to express gratitude toward his sponsors, B&M Cycles and A-Ok Auto Supply, whose support was instrumental in his success. “A huge thank you to B&M Cycles and A-Ok Auto Supply”, he said. “They were very helpful, providing me with the repairs and support I needed to keep pushing forward. I was proud to have them on my team.”

With the 2024 championship now in his rearview mirror, Gage Payne is already looking ahead to the upcoming season in the Open Intermediate class and the bigger challenges that come along with that. If his rise to the top this year is any indication, there’s no telling how far he’ll go in the world of racing.
